Math Quizzine, a day late.

Here is today's math question:

What are the chances of rolling the same number on a six-sided die, three times in a row?

Have fun and good luck!

ok, you roll your first number..
    doesn't matter what it is..

then you have a 1 in 6 chance of getting it again.. then you have another 1 in 6 chance on the last die.

    isn't it 1:36 chance then?

You have 10 fingers! You can't fool me for a second!

    Isn't it a factorial thingy?

And the prize goes to Grend31, with his answer entitled, The First Roll Don't Matter.

Beowo1|= would have the correct answer if I had asked for the chance of a specific number being rolled 3 times in a row.

You would use factorials to solve a problem where numbers are eliminated, such as drawing bingo numbers or the lottery.

Sorry, but I have 10 toes, 8 fingers and 2 thumbs.

    Thanks for playing!

A thumb is on your hand! It is so a finger!

I want thumbs on my feet, too. Then I can type on two computers at once.

If a thumb were a finger, it would not have its own name... "thumb".

We even have things that are specifically designed, and named after, the thumb:

    Thumb-tack
    Thumb-screw
    Thumb-nail
    Thumbing-through
    Thumb-wrestling
    Thumbing-a-ride
    Hop-o'-my-thumb

If you substitute "finger" for "thumb", it's not quite the same meaning.

    Therefore, it ain't no finger.

I'm afraid dewdew is correct. Opposable thumb. What is it opposing? Fingers. And it can't oppose itself, so, therefore, logically, it cannot be a finger.
