Monday Math Quiz
Here is today's quiz. Have fun.
You are a butcher specializing in ground emu. A customer calls and says they will be there in three hours to buy some, but they didn't tell you how many pounds. You are the only one qualified to wrap the ground emu and you have to leave early for the day.
Assuming you have a total of 50 pounds of ground emu prepared, and using the fewest number of packages possible, you must wrap the emu so that the customer can buy ANY amount from 1 to 50 pounds of ground emu without having to split up a package. What is the minimum number of packages you will require and how much is in each package?
Good luck!!

Good job, MooCow. You get the prize!
The other solution is:
1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 19 pounds
Thanks everyone for playing. Note: there isn't a bag that can hold MooCow.

So okay I'm curious here...is there a way to do this mathamatically instead of just guess and check like I did?

I'd recommend doing this with a rusty pair of tinsnips. We were talking about acquiring the sack right?

I would like to acquire the MooCow sack mathematically... tangent, cosine, quotient... tessellation. (now, that's close)
I'm not sure that there is a mathematical "formula" to get the answer to this question. The answer lies more in recognizing the relationship of numbers, specifically the 2^x series. You stumbled on it in your solution. The "guess and check" is a perfectly valid tried-and-true method for solving a problem, and always welcome here.

Emu? Yuck. Can I lecture the customer on the values of wild game and vegetarianism instead?
