Math Quizzine, a day late.

Here is today's math question:

What are the chances of rolling the same number on a six-sided die, three times in a row?

Have fun and good luck!

Monday Quizzine

Well, we didn't have a winner on the last question, but it's still open for your input. Here's today's question:

How may years older or younger are you than the cube root of the sum of all of the prime numbers between 1 and 1000?

No need you show your work on this one.

Thanks and good luck!

More cats

Paula requested pictures of the cats.

Jessie will be 18 in August. We recently put her on thyroid medication, and she's doing just fine. She is quite playful and sleeps next to me on the bed every night. Here's a picture of her yawning:

Scully is 12 years old and is just a little wisp of a thing. She's barely 8 pounds and is a beautiful blue-creme tabby. She needs more attention than a hyperactive mensa member. When we sleep-in on the weekends, she's right there with us under the covers. Here's a picture of her playing her favorite game, string:

I don't have a picture of Annie scanned in yet, and our scanner is still in a box from our move. I will get to it soon.

Fun with estimating!

Thanks again for everyone's participation. We will move on to a problem of a different sort. Estimating is one of the finer arts in the mathematical realm. Here's your task:

What is the approximate weight (in pounds) of a solid steel fire ring that is 3 feet in diameter, 1 foot high and 1 inch thick.

Yes, I plan on buying one before the 4th of July.

Good luck, and please show your work.

Today's Quizzine

Nice job on the first quizzine, so we will have another. Thanks everyone for your input.

What is the smallest three digit prime number where the sum of its digits equals an odd prime number.

No need to show your work on this one, and the prize is still the same.

Math Quizzine

Okay folks, here's the first (and maybe last) in my series of math quizzines. I will make up a problem, and you solve it. I'll start with an easy one:

What number is twice as big as (half of its square root) cubed. Parenthesis added to show the order of operations.

Please show your work.

2nd, 3rd and 4th

Barbeque anyone?

We are planning another 4th of July gathering this year. However, we have moved just up the road a bit. Our new house has less indoor space, and more outdoor space. The fire pit in the front yard has a nice view of the lake, and so does the fireplace in the living room.

We are still working on guest accommodations, and may solicit suggestions. There's plenty of floor space, but we are lacking mattresses. We are thinking of either an air-bed or futon mattress. Or, BYOB, if you prefer. Tenters and camper-type vehicles are welcome too.

Stop in and stay a while anytime from the 2nd through the 4th.
